Lauren O'Brien, a 13-year-old girl from Knockane, Tarelton, tragically lost her life during a junior motorsport event in Castletown Kenneigh, Cork. This was only her second time competing, and she was described as a “bubbly, fun-loving, kind, caring” young girl by her school principal at McEgan College, where she was a first-year student. Her family issued a heartfelt message of gratitude to emergency services, the Cork Autograss community, and those who offered support.
A vigil was held, and grief counselors were deployed at her school. Messages of condolence have poured in, celebrating her joyous personality. GardaĆ are investigating the incident, including forensic examination of the involved cars. They are appealing for witnesses and camera footage to assist the investigation. Lauren is survived by her parents, siblings, grandparents, and extended family. The community continues to mourn her sudden and tragic passing while supporting her loved ones through this difficult time.
